Born in Detroit and based in Berlin, Jimmy Edgar has been making waves since 1999 with his futuristic, funky music filled with machine-like sounds and erotic innuendos. He has released countless albums and EPs on established labels such as Warped, K7, and Hotflush under the guise of different aliases and artist collaborations, and has remixed artists of all genres, from Michael Jackson to Portishead to Daedelus.

Edgar announced late last month the birth of a new label, Ultramajic, which he will head along with friend and side-project JETS collaborator Travis Stewart, aka Machinedrum. The aesthetic of the label is said to be inspired by the metaphysical and the supernatural, sparked by a winter trip to Machu Picchu: “We are very interested in the idea of ancient magick becoming a modern reality and merging it with art culture… We are invested in making these things relevant again and spiking some curiosity within young people.”

Accompanying the news of the Ultramajic label was the announcement of its first EP, Hot Inside, a three-track selection of Edgar’s drama-filled, dance-floor destroyers. The title track is filled with happy house grooves, complete with some diva-licious wailing, while the second track “Shout” makes a 180 with eroding electro synths that sound more drone-like, along with stuttering vocals that amp up the energy. The last song, “Strike,” jumps around in sound but increases in intensity with a strong bass-kick that really gets feet moving.

Look out for Hot Inside to drop on June 10th. Meanwhile, check out the preview below.
