When you hear the drums, you’ll know what era it is.
Produced by pop-masters M83, The Killers’ new single “Shot at the Night” is heavily reminiscent of Phil Collins. Now, throw in a Swedish house duo who grew up listening to Tiesto, and you get a grooving progressive dance track with all the right moves. In fact, it just might best the original.
The mashup sounds completely natural too (with the exception of the near-hypersonic drum breakdowns). Cazzette leave the 80s dreamscape intact, serving only to enhance its effects by speeding it up and adding some soul-zapping electrofunk. Good luck staying off your feet.
In our interview with Sebastian Furrer of Cazzette earlier this year, he noted growing up with “a lot of funk and a lot of groove”. If they themselves hadn’t accomplished this before, they certainly have now.
